Child struck while crossing road

Friday 03 February 2023

A child has been involved in a road accident near Blanchelande College during the busy spell around the school's drop off time.

In a message to pupils' parents and carers, the Principal confirmed that a student was involved in an accident after getting off a public bus on the road leading to the college, Rue Frairies.

The child was crossing the road - to the pavement - when the accident occurred. No other details are known at this time.

Mr O'Brien said in his email to all parents and carers: "I am hugely relieved to confirm that the student will be OK and has been taken home."

He also confirmed that support is being offered to other children who may have witnessed the accident, which happened when a large number of the school's pupils aged between two and 18 would have been arriving for their lessons.

"Students will be reassured in assembly this morning and any students who witnessed the incident will be given support throughout the day," Mr O'Brien wrote.

"We will be liaising closely with the Police and the Traffic Services department regarding broader issues."

A spokesperson for the emergency services said:

"Police and ambulance attended a call at 08:19. One individual was assessed at the incident for injuries, and was discharged at the scene. Police managed the traffic while the situation was dealt with."
