Islanders intending to drive to and through Europe should be aware of changes made since Brexit.
With travel happening more frequently following the pandemic, Islanders are reminded to make note of the changes that have ensued since Brexit.
Islanders driving to and through Europe should be aware of the following:
In conjunction with the UK Department for Transport, the States of Guernsey has secured agreements with the majority of EU/EEA countries.
Most countries (including France) will recognise a Bailiwick of Guernsey-issued Driving Licence when driving temporarily in Europe without the need for an IDP to be issued.
Please note that for peace of mind, especially if you are looking to hire a car abroad, you can still obtain an IDP from Drive and Vehicle Licensing at Bulwer Avenue either by attending in person or by sending in a postal application.
The post-Brexit situation for driving in the EU continues to evolve as negotiations continue.
