Car "embedded in scaffolding" following accident

Sunday 06 May 2018

A car has struck scaffolding supporting a house opposite the M&S food hall in St Martin's.

Les Merriennes has been closed since around 05:00 on Sunday 6 May as emergency services continue to deal with the situation.

Civil Protection volunteers are working with Guernsey Police to keep motorists away from the area with the road blocked at the junction with Rue Poudreuse, Les Caches traffic lights and the Grande Rue/Rue Maze filter.

Guernsey Police closed the road shortly after 05:00 with Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service also attending the scene of the collision.

At the time no one was reported to be trapped in the vehicle or injured. There has been no further update from the emergency services regarding who was driving the vehicle - which was a company branded car - at the time of the incident.

There is a high possibility that this road will remain closed for some time with Civil Protection volunteers manning the junctions and directing home owners who need access and passing motorists.

The Scaffolding firm was also present at the scene before 08:00 to make sure the area was safe.
