Call for final submissions to environmental community fund

Reusable cup schemes, sea shore litter analysis projects and renewable energy systems are among the "impressive" entries to Guernsey Electricity’s Power to the People Fund.

Launched in November, the initiative has been developed to financially support projects that benefit the environment and local community. The deadline for entries to the first round of the fund is 31 January.

Guernsey Electricity’s Chief Operating Officer Sally-Ann David said a diverse range of submissions has already been received.

“From a reusable cup scheme, sea shore litter analysis projects, to a community garden kitchen and renewable energy system kits and educational tools for schools, the ideas have been very impressive and highlight the number of Islanders who share our own aspirations for a more sustainable future," she said. 

“We are keen to choose projects that bring the most benefit to our community and environment. We are still open for entries and hope this initiative will provide people with the opportunity to make a positive impact, however big or small, on our wider community.”

The process starts with an online submission via Guernsey Electricity’s website, followed by an assessment of the suitability of each application based on set criteria. Successful applicants will be notified by 31 March 2021 and funds are allocated twice per year - up to £6,000 in March and September.

Charities and partners that have previously been supported by Guernsey Electricity are still able to apply for funding, as long as they are aligned with the four pillars of the company’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy (affordable and clean energy, climate action, healthy ecosystems and education, awareness and skills).
