Bus service to change for 2020

Monday 18 November 2019

A price rise on the Nightbus service and changes in route frequency are among the States' plans to improve Guernsey's bus service from next year.

Traffic & Highway Services has proposed a 50p increase for the Nightbus, which runs from 22:00 until 01:00, taking the price up to £3.

Meanwhile, the Pay As You Go service will rise by five pence to 65p per journey.

Following the refurbishment of the Little Chapel, CT Plus has seen a high demand in passengers using Route 71 to visit the landmark. Traffic & Highway Services have, therefore, proposed an increase in route frequency during the 'off-peak' period from an hourly service to a half-hourly service. This will run between 09:35 and 13:35, Monday to Saturday.

However, the services have also seen a drop in passenger demand for the 'off-peak' period on Route 81 during the winter months. As a result, they are asking that the service is reduced from half-hourly to hourly between 09:50 and 14:50, Monday to Saturday, from 12 October to 11 April.

The additional summer early evening services, which were introduced this year on Routes 11, 21, 32, 81, 91 and 92 proved popular and will be reintroduced once again between 13 April and 10 October 2020.

Alongside these changes, there will be a number of 'minor' timing changes within a route's journey, which are not expected to impact current departure times from the Town Terminus.

The Committee for Environment & Infrastructure is asking that bus-users share their thoughts on the proposed changes before 29 November. They can do so by emailing traffic@gov.gg or by writing to the Director of Traffic & Highways Services, Bulwer Avenue Office, Bulwer Avenue, St Sampson, GY1 3HY.

If approved, the changes will be introduced from Monday 6 January 2020.
