"Break the silence"

Sunday 13 October 2019

People in Guernsey are joining together this week to raise awareness of pregnancy and infant loss, while remembering lost loved ones.

Baby Loss Awareness Week has begun and Guernsey Sands is inviting parents, families and friends to break the silence around around pregnancy and baby loss.

The charity is holding a remembrance event today at its memorial garden in Le Foulon Cemetery, giving those affected the chance to light a candle and remember. They are then invited to make their way to Le Friquet Garden Centre for refreshments.

Both the garden centre and St James are being lit up with blue and pink lights this week in support of the initiative.

The week of remembrance will come to an end on Tuesday with a global 'Wave of Light'.

This year, Guernsey Sands is holding two 'Wave of Light' events. The first will take place from 18:45 until 21:00 at the St Stephen's Community Centre, where anyone is invited to turn up and light a candle. The second is an online event on the charity's Facebook page, giving people the chance to get involved from the comfort of their own homes.

“We hope that our remembrance event will spark conversations about baby loss and give local bereaved parents and families an opportunity to talk about their precious babies," said Guernsey Sands Chair, Rob Jones.
