Bluetooth now allowed on most Aurigny services

Aurigny has announced that the use of Bluetooth is now permitted on all its ATR aircraft, meaning passengers will be able to use wireless headphones and other devices whilst in-flight.

Malcolm Coupar, Commercial Director of Aurigny, said approval has been received for the airlines most common aircraft and restrictions can now be removed.

“We have to receive type certification for each aircraft type to enable Bluetooth use on board – we have just completed the process,” he said. 

The airlines Embraer jet has been certified for Bluetooth “for a long time”, but those travelling on the Dornier’s – the aircraft used on Alderney routes – will not be able use Bluetooth. 

Mr Coupar said those aircraft are unlikely to be registered “because of the cost of the certification process and short flight times.”

Mr Coupar added that Bluetooth devices can be used at all times of a flight, “but there are occasions when we the cabin crew will ask customers to refrain from using them to enable them to hear announcements”. 

He said whilst few customers had requested the change, the airline is constantly looking for ways to improve services and customer comfort.

“We were aware that many customers assumed we had it,” he said.
