Bin stickers on sale now

Wednesday 16 January 2019

The next phase of Guernsey's waste strategy is getting closer with the stickers we need to put on our black bag waste now available in shops to buy, before we have to start using them next month.

We'll have to put a sticker on every bag of rubbish we throw out - while all of our recycling will still be taken away for 'free', under the existing charges.

The stickers will cost £1.40 for bags up to 50l or £2.50 for bags up to 90l.

No larger bags will be collected under the new scheme, which starts the week commencing Sunday 3 February.

From then on, the island's rubbish collectors will only be able to take away 'black bag' waste if it's got a sticker on it. They're brightly coloured so they're easy to spot and highly adhesive so they can't be removed without ripping the bags, as Express found out when we trialled the stickers last year.

Leaflets have been sent to every household with information about the stickers, which are available now from shops including Aladdin's Cave, Alliance, Co-op branches,  Forest Stores, Iceland, M&S Food Halls, Morrisons and Waitrose.

You can buy them now, but don't have to put them on your black bag waste until the first week in February.

The bills for the £85 annual waste charge will also be sent out next month, while Parish rates will be payable when due as normal.
