The Head of Guernsey's Schools Library Service has been awarded a British Empire Medal for her work across the Channel Islands and the UK.

Elizabeth Hutchinson has been working in the local library industry since 2003 and is also now the Head of Learning & Development at the Guille-Alles.

Since being promoted in 2014, Mrs Hutchinson has introduced a Channel Island Children's Book Award and has spent a lot of time training staff and teachers.

"I have worked for the Schools' Library Service since 2003 and have loved the potential to collaborate with teachers and students," Mrs Hutchinson said in her bio. "I believe that access to a good school library is a right of every child and I will continue to work towards the goal."

She now works nationally as an independent trainer and adviser, specialising in school libraries.

She is Vice Chairperson of the #GreatSchoolLibraries campaign - fighting for every child to have access to a good school library - a Committee Member CILIP School Library Group and a renowned blogger.

Mrs Hutchinson was nominated for the award nationally and was therefore not included in the original Bailiwick New Year's Honours List 2020.
