Two of the island’s police constables have travelled with Team Guernsey to the Commonwealth Games to join 2,000 officers policing the event.
PCs Adam Potter and Mathew Du Port, both motorcyclists from the Roads Policing Unit, will be sworn in as West Midlands Police Special Constables to patrol near Birmingham during the Games, which start on Thursday.
The secondment was arranged following an appeal from West Midlands Police for additional support to cover, police and provide security at the Games. As Guernsey Police was able to provide officers with the specialist skills required, it was agreed that PCs Du Port and Potter would attend.
With Guernsey athletes participating at the Games, Guernsey Police said “it only seemed right to help with the policing of the event once the request for support came through”.

The event will provide an opportunity for the officers to gain experience policing a large-scale sporting event ahead of Guernsey hosting the Island Games next year.
Ruari Hardy, the Head of Law Enforcement, said: “As an organisation we are really pleased to be able to support both the Commonwealth Games and Team Guernsey at this event.
“We have been able to benefit from mutual aid support from UK forces in recent years, so this was an excellent opportunity for us to give back some support in return, as well as it being invaluable experience for some of our specialist officers.”
