Bailiwick is Covid-free once again

Monday 19 October 2020

There are now zero cases of Covid-19 in the Bailiwick, after the last person to have tested positive was cleared of the virus.

It means that Guernsey has no active cases and only 42 pending tests.

It comes in stark contrast to the rest of the British Isles, which have seen a rising number of cases in recent weeks and are all now in Guernsey's 'Group A' list, meaning that anyone who travels here must self-isolate for 14 days.

Only this morning, it was announced that Wales will go into a "firebreak" lockdown because of rising concerns over the pandemic, with pubs, restaurants and non-essential shops forced to close from Friday.

Guernsey is currently set to enter a revised Phase 5c next Monday, which will bring in on-arrival testing. It is unlikely to lead to any sudden influx of activity at Guernsey's Ports as people coming from high-risk regions and countries will still have to quarantine upon arrival.

Guernsey's small number of recent cases of Covid-19 have all been travel-linked and Public Health say these cases caused little threat to the community because those travellers all complied with their self-isolation requirements.
