Aurigny have right to outsource, but lack of consultation "surprising"

Friday 26 April 2019

Aurigny's shareholder was given no advance notice of the company's decision to outsource the operations control centre in Alderney.

However, States' Trading Supervisory Board President Peter Ferbrache said Aurigny's management is within its rights to make operational decisions such as the one it announced yesterday.

"It does fall in their remit," he said of Aurigny's decision to outsource the functions to global aviation services group Air Partner.

"Perhaps they should have had a word with or consulted Alderney beforehand, but it is their decision to make."

The move could result in job losses in Alderney, although there is some dispute over the exact number.

Aurigny has said that four members of staff will be affected, while the States of Alderney is claiming that seven jobs will be lost.

Deputy Parkinson was the President of STSB, Aurigny's shareholder, earlier this term before becoming the Economic Development President.

Economic Development President Charles Parkinson said he was surprised that the States in either island had not been informed beforehand.

"It is an operational decision therefore it is within the remit of the company - but I am surprised [that no prior notice was given]."
