Aurigny is exploring options to maintain links with the Isle of Man beyond the current ‘air bridge'.
With Phase 5c potentially on the horizon, the States-owned airline is hoping to resume a more robust programme to its usual travel destinations.
However, as passenger demand is expected to remain at a lower level than usual, frequency of flights will be less than last winter.
The company has been exploring ways to make use of its spare capacity and available aircraft, including recent charter flights for Formula 1 teams heading to Europe.
As the Isle of Man ‘air bridge’ has proven to be a success, the possibility of continuing with the route is being discussed.
"Given the very positive response to its Isle of Man services, Aurigny is exploring whether there are other opportunities to maintain links with that island in the short and medium term and, should those prove to be commercially viable, will release details in due course," a spokesperson for the States Trading & Supervisory Board said.
Head of Policy & Resources, Deputy Gavin St Pier recently spoke about the possibility of establishing a more permanent link with the northern isle during an interview with Isle of Man TV.
“I have certainly always believed that there was an opportunity to talk to the Isle of Man about whether [Aurigny] could support your transport links as well,” he said.
“If it makes commercial sense for the airline, and it works for you, then why not?”
Aurigny recently announced a comprehensive range of new flights beginning on 21 September, which will see a return to several regional hubs that have not been available since before lockdown.
There is currently no set date for when the Bailiwick will move to Phase 5c of the lockdown exit strategy, which will see on-arrival testing for covid-19 and an immediate release from quarantine upon receipt of a negative result.
