Artist returns home for local exhibition

Sunday 28 October 2018

A Guernsey born artist is holding an exhibition in the island for the first time in many years, after spending time living in London, where most recently he's been working on film and television projects.

Dominic Wheadon turned his hand to architecture and set and prop production, after studying Art Foundation in Bournemouth and Industrial Model Making in Kent.

Among the notable highlights on his CV are his work on Braveheart, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and the upcoming sequel, Mary Poppins Returns.

Mr Wheadon returned to Guernsey earlier this year however, and spent the summer relaxing with family and enjoying time fishing and swimming. That has inspired his latest art work, which includes a number of coastal themed oil paintings, which are now on display at his brother's hotel, the Bella Luce.

A private display on Thursday night was well attended with a number of commissions ordered, meaning Mr Wheadon will be looking for further inspiration from his surroundings.

"I've always kept a studio and painted so I went back to school and studied Fine Art in 2003.

"I've painted and sculpted all my life, and now I take my inspiration from Guernsey's beautiful coastline."
