Ambulance subscription charges to rise

Wednesday 30 October 2024

Increases in the rate of an annual ambulance subscription are being “kept to a minimum” as people are encouraged to sign up to avoid the potential of a costly bill.

There will be a new way to pay as Ambulance and Rescue works with Guernsey Post to offer another way to sign up.

For 2025 it will cost £68 for an adult subscription, up from £63 this year. Anyone without a subscription could be charged up to £562 for an ambulance.

“Having an annual subscription, which costs £68 for adults, provides peace of mind for members and avoids a bill for the full cost of an ambulance,” said Ambulance and Rescue Finance Director Simon Gardiner.

“We annually review our subscription scheme prices and changes and while many of the costs associated with running an ambulance service continue to rise we have kept the increase in subscriptions and fees to a minimum, as we remain committed to providing high quality care and accessible emergency medical services.”

The £68 a year fee is the equivalent of 19p a day. It covers up to five free emergency ambulance responses, including assessment, up to 10 non-medical transfers and up to five Flying Christine marine ambulance transfers.

Renewals and new memberships can now be paid for at any Guernsey Post branch as well as online.

Anyone with an existing direct debit does not need to take any action.

Guernsey Post Head of Corporate Engagement Dawn Gallienne, said it was delighted to collaborate with St John Ambulance.

“This partnership aligns with our commitment to supporting the community and ensuring essential services are easily accessible to everyone in Guernsey.”
