Alderney moves to Stage Two of lockdown exit

Tuesday 02 March 2021

Alderney has taken further steps out of lockdown, with the northern isle now completely clear of Covid-19.

The island has had only one case of Covid-19 during the Bailiwick's second wave of the virus and this person has since recovered.

Similarly, Sark moved into Stage 2 on Thursday 25 February due to its complete absence of positive cases.

Both islands are set to move to Stage 3 ahead of Guernsey - where all but one of the Bailiwick's Covid-19 cases have been recorded in 2021 - with Alderney expecting to make the move on Tuesday 9 March and Sark earlier still on Thursday this week.

“We are fortunate to be in a position where we currently have no active cases of Covid-19,” said Alderney States member, Bill Abel.

Mr Abel represents the States of Alderney when liasing with the Civil Contingencies Authority.

“We have not seen a new case since that single case was cleared a week ago,” he said. “So the CCA and the States of Alderney have agreed that it’s entirely appropriate for Alderney to move forward through its exit from lockdown.”

The change allows non-essential retailers to open up; however, there are strict conditions on this that have been outlined on the States of Guernsey website.

St Anne’s school will also be opening in Stage 2, with the Head Teacher advising parents of the process to follow this week.
