Air Display initiative celebrates 10th anniversary

Sunday 07 August 2022

The Friends of the Guernsey Air Display initiative is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year – the initiative was set up as an affordable way for the public to become involved with the yearly event.

Each year, a bespoke Guernsey Air Display pin badge is produced, and this year’s badge has been designed with the anniversary in mind. It showcases the Red Arrows in line with the historic Royal Air Force logo.

Darrel Bertrand, pictured above on the left, has been a Friend for ten years and spoke of his pride of being involved with the successful event.

“In 2018, I persuaded my brother Wayne to become a Friend too, so it has become a family effort to show our support,” he said.

“The Air Display is a staple event in Guernsey’s calendar, and I would encourage anyone who enjoys watching this wonderful event to join my family - and many others - in playing a part to make this happen.”

It costs £15 to be a Friend of the Air Display. Members are provided with a pin badge, a name listing on the website and in the programme, and the opportunity to win one of three pairs of VIP tickets to attend the reception at Castle Cornet.

Natalie Davidson, from the Guernsey Air Display Foundation, hopes that more people will join the initiative to support the event far past the anniversary.

“More than 80% of the event is publicly funded and we rely heavily on Guernsey’s community spirit. The Friends of initiative is an affordable way for members of the public to have a closer relationship with the display,” said Ms Davidson.

There are several different options to support the Guernsey Air Display including the Friends of initiative, consortium memberships and a corporate friend.
