80 new spaces at the PEH

Tuesday 13 August 2019

80 new parking spaces have opened for staff on a new site at the South of the Princess Elizabeth Hospital, near Oberlands Road.

The parking bays, which opened yesterday, are set out with white coloured markers, matching the colour scheme which has already been in use for many years across the PEH campus, where white spaces mean it is staff parking, and red spaces are provided for visitors and service users.

The parking expansion features a 'dedicated planting scheme and a new floodlit footpath, which leads staff to the walkways near the lighthouse wards and on to their workplace'.

All PEH staff have received an email message explaining the changes and the new area will be manned by Porters for the next few weeks to help staff as the facility becomes fully established.

Oberlands PEH Mental Health

The new spaces for staff are just off Oberlands Road.

Jan Coleman, Hospital Modernisation Director, said: “HSC works hard to try and accommodate all of the demands and challenges it faces running a busy health and social care campus for the island. We are fully aware of the difficulties faced by our service users on occasion when the site reaches capacity, and have worked hard to provide the additional parking in conjunction with a range of other measures and promotions to ensure staff and our visitors have options and can play their part in managing this issue.

"We have asked our staff to support the changes we are making across the PEH campus and I would like to thank our team of porters who do their upmost every day to manage the PEH as well as our colleagues at Environment & Infrastructure and CT Plus for supporting the bus promotion in September.”

The expansion is part of a suite of initiatives being introduced to manage the traffic which arises across the busy PEH campus from service users, visitors, staff and essential contractors. In addition to the car parks, new staff changing facilities will be in place by the end of the year for those that wish to shower after walking or cycling in and all PEH staff are being offered free bus travel to and from the PEH during September to promote the use of public transport.

A staff parking permit scheme similar to the systems used to control other States of Guernsey locations is under development which HSC aims to launch later in the year. Fixed penalty notices remain an option to enforce parking in the future, should that become necessary.

Parking on the PEH campus will remain under review and the impact of the new parking area will be assessed.
