Xbox is to start supporting mouse and keyboard hardware for gamers, the company has announced.

The gaming giant will in the coming weeks allow select users to test the feature, which the company says will support most current wired and wireless mouse and keyboard hardware.

The devices are popular tools among many gamers – particularly in eSports competitions – and Xbox said it will make the new feature available to developers to build into their titles.

“It’s important to note that mouse and keyboard support for games is added on a title-by-title basis, entirely at developers’ discretion. For all other titles, nothing changes,” Xbox’s Jason Ronald wrote in a blog post.

“Mouse and keyboard input is not enabled by default for games. Each development team knows their titles best and we support them in creating the right experience for their games as they see fit, to ensure an optimal and fair gaming experience.”

Xbox also revealed it is to partner with gaming accessory firm Razer, which the company said will help “bring the best possible mouse and keyboard experience for this new functionality”.

Third-person shooter title Warframe has been confirmed as the first game to support the new set-up, with more to follow.

Xbox has promised to reveal more information about other games that will offer support for mouse and keyboard during the next live stream of its Inside Xbox show on November 10.
