Spotify has linked up with genetic identification service Ancestry in a move that allows anyone who has ever used the DNA service to find playlists linked to their heritage.
In the US, anyone who has ever used one of Ancestry’s at-home DNA kits to identify their genetic make-up and heritage can now link Spotify to their Ancestry account and be served playlists to match the findings.
For its part, Spotify has created a range of new playlists built around music from different countries and regions – the playlist based on England features the likes of Dizzee Rascal and Stormzy.
The new music-DNA link-up appears to only be available in the US for now, with the playlists described as a new way to learn about ethnicity and connect with distant relatives and culture.
Ancestry’s online services also extend to helping users trace their family tree by searching old records and tracing distant relatives.
