A new tiny companion device for your smartphone, billed as a wearable that will help you refrain from using your main handset, is set to launch in the UK.

Palm, who announced its comeback last week, will re-enter the scene with a so-called “ultra-mobile companion device” that’s about the size of a credit card and syncs to your primary smartphone.

Vodafone has revealed it will be stocking the new gadget in the UK exclusively for the first six months.

Rather than competing in the pretty crowded smartphone market directly, the Palm aims to help users put their smartphone away and get on with everyday tasks from its smaller and lighter device.

Running on Android, the Palm has a 3.3-inch HD display – almost half the size of the iPhone XS Max for example – alongside a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing snapper.

Vodafone is yet to confirm exact pricing and a UK release date, but in the US it will cost from $300 (£234) and will hit shelves across the country from November 2.
