It is the video game that can change friendships and relationships, with social calendars thrown out to maximise game time, now the Fifa franchise is back for another year.

Fifa 19 goes on sale in the UK on Friday, and already social media is full of reaction to the arrival of the long-running football series, with emotions ranging from excitement and anticipation to dread and some strong feelings of missing out.

This year’s game includes some wide-scale changes to physical gameplay, including a new active touch system that has overhauled how players control the ball, as well as the new timed finishing feature that requires more skill when shooting.

The changes have not gone unnoticed among early players, leaving some struggling to adapt and frustrated.

For others though, the excitement of having a new Fifa at their fingertips was hard to control, sparking unrivalled levels of enthusiasm – German side Hoffenheim led the way with an impressive show of dedication to the game at their training ground.
