Facebook-owned Oculus has announced it will be launching its new standalone virtual reality headset in spring next year.
Following on from the Oculus Go, the Oculus Quest boasts six degrees of freedom, allowing users to look in any direction and walk through virtual space the way they would in the physical world.
Oculus Go launched in May this year and became the first virtual reality headset with the display and computing power built directly into the headset.
Like its predecessor, Oculus Quest has no PC, no wires and no external sensors.
It is due to retail at 399 US dollars (£302) – up from 199 dollars for Oculus Go – but the makers say it features improvements to both the optics and the built-in audio.
It also has touch controllers, meaning users can “interact with people and objects in a natural way,” the makers said.
Oculus said there will be more than 50 games and experiences lined up for the device by its launch date.
