The Jersey Kids’ Triathlon will return on Saturday 10th June 2017 and organisers are delighted to confirm and welcome Vistra as the new headline sponsor of the event. The event, which is in its fifth year will now be known as the Vistra Jersey Kids’ Triathlon and will continue to support and fundraise for the charity Bloodwise.

Jane Pearce, Managing Director of Vistra Jersey, commented: “We are delighted to be the headline sponsor of the Jersey Kids’ Triathlon. It is not only a fantastic event to get children fit in a non-competitive environment but is also raising awareness for a very worthy charity. We look forward to helping to build the success of the event for the island’s children, whilst increasing fundraising for Bloodwise so they can continue their invaluable work in reducing blood cancer.”

The event, which takes place at Les Quennevais Sports & Leisure Centre, welcomes children of all ability and background to take part in a fun and rewarding day of sport.  There are no winners and no losers, just a fantastic amount of special achievers, who are supported (all the way) by experts from local junior sporting clubs such as The Jersey Junior Tri Stars Club, Jersey Swimming Club, Jersey Cycling Association Youth Academy and Jersey Park Run.

In 2016 the event welcomed some four hundred energetic children, and with triathlon sport becoming more popular every day, organisers are hoping to see around five hundred children take on the fun challenge in 2017. A triathlon involves a swim, bike and run sequence over various distances depending on age.

The event raised over £10,000 for Bloodwise in 2016 due to some exceptional fundraising efforts by the participating children. Organisers are hoping that the amount raised in 2017 can rise to £15,000 and so they are again encouraging all participating children to support Bloodwise and help raise valuable funds for this important local charity. All participating children automatically receive a personal online fundraising page on completion of registration, which makes it easier for them

to seek sponsorship in return for taking on such a tremendous challenge.

Chris Rowland, Chairman of the Jersey Branch of Bloodwise said: “The children’s triathlon is a fantastic opportunity to both fundraise and raise awareness for blood cancer research amongst the Jersey community. Since the charity was launched in 1960, blood cancer research has come on leaps and bounds and now we see that 9 in 10 children survive a blood cancer diagnosis. This is thanks to the research which is funded by fundraisers such as those in the Jersey Branch.”

Whilst the event is non-competitive there are plenty of prizes to be won, including the School Trophy award that is presented to the school who has the most participants entered on a pro-rata basis. There are also awards for the highest individual fundraisers as well as plenty of other prizes that are part of the popular raffle competition.

The Vistra Jersey Kids Triathlon really is a special day out for all the family. Whilst the young ones are participating, the parents and grandparents cheer them on passionately all the way to the finish line. In addition, there will be plenty of entertainment on the day, with a food and a drink stall, bouncy castles and more.

Organisers are also encouraging families to bring a picnic and enjoy the fantastic atmosphere on the day.

Online entry for The Jersey Kids’ Triathlon is available to all children in years 2-8 who are aged six and above, and can be found via the website www.jerseykidstriathlon.com. Entry will remain open until midnight on Thursday 8 June 2017.
