The start of September always gives me that “new term” feeling.
It’s time to get your head down and get on with some work!
There is plenty of work going on at Admiral Park now – and not in the construction sense anymore! The final building was completed earlier this summer with office staff moving in. It marks the end of “two decades of investment in the area”, according to Comprop. You can read more about it on page 42.
Putting together this issue of Connect, as always, gave me plenty to think about and gave me some ideas for further news stories and features we can work on.
Learning about the work Guernsey Electricity is doing to meet the island’s carbon neutral aims sparked a deeper interest for me and I hope it does for you too.
As my family moves into a new home, I’ll be looking at ways that we as one small cog in the island’s network can be more energy efficient and less carbon-hungry. GEL has lots of top tips if you’re looking for ways to be more sustainable too!
Working towards a more sustainable life as individuals and as one island together takes many different forms though.
Did you know how carbon hungry a wedding dress can be? Imogen Berryman-Leach worked it out when planning her own wedding and now she can help make sure your dream dress is better for the environment too. Read more on page 24.
As always, we’ve been speaking to those involved in the big issues locally – including Stephen Glencross who is leading on the island’s anti-discrimination legislation with the second phase of the law coming in this year. Read what he has to say on page 30.
We’ve got the very latest from our friends at the Chamber of Commerce too. They are busy planning their ‘People, Planet & (Mary) Portas’ Gala Dinner for later this year. Have you got your tickets yet?
Guernsey Mind are always good at keeping us talking about our mental health and wellbeing. Read their latest tips and advice on page 46.
Finally, one of the big summer events has just happened (at the time of writing!) - so we’re delighted to share with you some of the highlights from the 2024 Harbour Carnival.
Well done to all at the Round Table who organised it.
