Tickets are now on sale for a Hollywood and Broadway-themed variety act night in aid of Young Lives vs Cancer. The event promises to be an unforgettable evening of glitz and glamour, all for a great cause.

Hosted by BBC Guernsey’s John Fernandez, guests will be treated to a stunning lineup of performances, including the talented Arabesque Dance Company, the smooth sounds of Le Jazz Accord, the magical talents of Ben Le Page, and performances from local singers, to be enjoyed over a delicious three-course meal.

The showcase is the annual fundraiser of the Arabesque Dance Company, which was established 12 years ago by Diane Piper. Since starting the ladies’ dance group, Mrs Piper has donated all her fees for teaching the classes, raising over £42,000 for the charity in the process. She said she had a personal reason for supporting the charity, which supports children and young people (up to the age of 25) and their families face the challenges of a cancer diagnosis.

“My son, Craig, was diagnosed with cancer when he was a baby and suffered many health issues all his life until his devastating and tragic death at the age of 29,” said Mrs Piper.

“It is impossible to put into words the impact a childhood cancer diagnosis has on the entire family. It becomes all-consuming and the thought of facing the journey alone is incredibly daunting. Young Lives vs Cancer plays an essential role in supporting children and their families in making a horrific time a bit more manageable.”

Mrs Piper said this year’s theme was particularly special: “When I think of Hollywood and Broadway, I think of big dreams coming true, and that is exactly what this event is for me. When I started Arabesque, I never imagined that I would make such incredible friendships, raise so much for a charity so close to my heart, or that it would allow me to still be teaching at 75!”

“This show will be a testament to the power of community, the joy of shared passions, and the magic that happens when we come together for a greater cause. I am endlessly grateful for this beautiful journey and the incredible people who have been part of it.”

Mrs Piper – who is a qualified dancer teacher and worked as a professional dancer internationally – said she hoped islanders would support the event, which will be held at St Pierre Park in September.

“I still love dancing and performing as much as the first day I put on a leotard and pair of tap shoes. We will be showcasing a bit of everything at the variety night, and our performances are always intended to be fun and a bit cheeky,” said Mrs Piper.

“We always have great comments and compliments every time we perform and hope everyone at the Hollywood & Broadway event will join in celebrating some amazing local talents.”

The event will take place from 7pm on Saturday 21 September 2024 at St Pierre Park.

Tickets are available at £55pp individually, or £500 for a table of 10, including a threecourse meal, entertainment, and DJ for dancing after the show. Hollywood and Broadway attire is optional for guests. To book or for more information, including menu choices, please email arabesqueguernsey@outlook.com
