THE Taste Guernsey Food Festival will return to Market Terrace and has been expanded to bring islanders almost a week of cookery demonstrations, tours, tastings and talks.

The festival runs from 3rd to 9th September and will include appearances from visiting chefs who will be announced over the coming weeks.

‘It is great to have grown the festival to a week-long event and to have our headquarters on Market Terrace so that many people can join in,’ said Taste Guernsey chairman Tony Leck.

‘Thanks to the generosity of ABN AMRO as sponsors for the second year, we have also been able to increase the number of different events and so the Taste Guernsey Food Festival will celebrate all that is so fantastic about local produce and products and showcase the island’s culinary talent over a whole week.’

ABN AMRO’s support, together with that of Visit Guernsey and the hard work of all those involved with Taste Guernsey, means this year’s event will include more than 20 free events. It will also give hundreds of islanders – who will be free to wander through the cookery tents at Market Terrace – the chance to taste delicious local food and exciting new recipes.

There will be a preview of the festival on Tuesday 2 September, when a special pop-up kitchen will appear in the middle of St Peter Port between 12pm and 2pm giving out food samples. It will appear again the following day, when the festival swings into action with the first of the tours.

On Thursday 4th September, the main food village at Market Terrace opens with ABN AMRO managing director Graham Thoume and director Andy Graham cooking Asian duck and Malaccan crab with tasters available. Over the rest of Thursday, Friday and Saturday there will be different food and cooking-related activities and tours happening featuring some well-known local chefs and visiting chefs from the UK.

On Sunday, the village moves down to the main seafront for the last of the food-related Seafront Sundays.

‘The Taste Guernsey Food Festival celebrates the flavours of the island and every day, we have the best produce, the fantastic skills of lots of different food professionals and a full programme of tastings, tours and talks. The event is growing each year and there is no doubt that this year will be the best yet,’ said Mr Leck.

As well as cooking lunches on Thursday and Friday, sponsors ABN AMRO will be actively involved across the whole week. They will take part in the Love Food, Hate Waste cooking challenge on Friday, host a charity auction on Saturday afternoon and be at the heart of the seafront Sunday.

‘This year’s Taste Guernsey will be the highlight of the year for anyone who is a foodie. The festival is such a wonderful way to celebrate local produce and home grown talent and ABN AMRO is thrilled to be part of it, both as sponsors and chefs,’ said Mr Thoume.

‘We are trying to raise as much money as possible for Caritas Community Charitable Trust, which aims to establish a residential community to support young people in difficulty. Through growing their own produce, creating products for the farmers market and establishing a community café, they are using food to help change lives and we want to do all we can to help them with that.’

More information about the Taste Guernsey Food Festival can be found at www.tasteguernsey.com Programmes are also available from the Tourist Information Centre and are being delivered to hotels and venues across the island.
