Guernsey, June 2014 A total of eight paddle boards have been purchased for use at the North Youth Centre, thanks to a donation from an award winning manager at State Street.
Andrew Thompson was named ‘Manager of the Year’ for his contribution to State Street’s community support initiatives in Guernsey. The award is an international one given by State Street to one of its employees each year and, as the winner last year, Andrew received a grant of £3,260 (local currency equivalent of US$5,000) from State Street to be donated to a charitable organisation of his choice.
Andrew, Operations Director at State Street Custody Services (Guernsey) Limited., chose the North Youth Centre as his chosen charity and as a result of the donation, Area Youth Work Manager, Clive De La Haye, was able to buy the boating equipment. Clive commented:
‘Without this donation we would find it difficult to raise the funds needed to purchase such equipment. The paddle boards will give so much enjoyment to the young people we have now and to many more in the future. We are very grateful to Andrew and State Street.’
The North Youth Centre, situated at the old Methodist Church at La Moye, provides a varied programme of activities and offers encouragement to young people from the age of 6 – 21, with a particular emphasis on those aged between 14 and 19. The club, with its staff and volunteers, is open five to seven days a week from morning till night, to provide facilities for young people in the north of the island.
Andrew added: ‘I decided to look for a charitable organisation working with young people who had a specific project and funding requirement that might benefit from such an injection of cash and the North Youth Centre fitted the bill ideally.’
State Street’s ‘Manager of the Year’ highlights individuals within the global scope of the company who, as well as fulfilling their daily operational role, have served as advocates for volunteering, and encouraged staff involvement in the community support programmes.
