St John has ensured islanders needing healthcare products and medical items have been kept supplied despite a recent flood at the Healthcare Shop at the Rohais.

The charity is reassuring customers that the shop is open for business following the devastating flood, thanks to measures put in place by managers and staff.

The St John Healthcare shop, which supplies a number of Guernsey’s residential homes and care facilities, had to close briefly and temporarily following the incident two weeks ago, but the team quickly adapted to overcome the challenges to maintain business continuity and ensure essential services for customers were uninterrupted.

While the recovery plans were put in place, shop staff met customers at the door to take orders and deal with enquiries. The sales, installation and aftercare of Stiltz Homelifts and Stannah Stairlifts has been unaffected by the recent event.

Commercial manager Gina Gooding said: “As soon as the flood was discovered our priority was ensuring essential supplies to the island’s care homes were maintained as well as finding a way to keep the shop running for our customers. We know that we are a lifeline for many people who are living independently in their own homes, so I would like to thank the whole team for adapting so quickly, which resulted a minimal disruption to customers. Thanks also to the incredible team from Guernsey Fire & Rescue, who helped clear the shop of water, and to Disaster Management Services who have been fantastic.”

“We are working with our insurers to replace what has been damaged, so we can return to normal operations as soon as possible. We are also trying to make the best out of the situation and we’re taking the opportunity to redecorate parts of the showroom. We are keen to hear from anyone who has the skills, experience and free time to help us with painting or decorating.”

The St John Healthcare shop is part of the St John charity in Guernsey and profits from sales are invested back into the charity to support the ongoing community and voluntary projects which support the island community. The shop provides mobility and accessibility aids to help make life a little easier for people who want to stay I their own home for longer, as well as healthcare products and medical consumables. St John in the local agent for Stannah Stairlifts and the Premier Partner for Stiltz Homelifts. St John also provides a free home assessment service for Repose riser and recliner chairs.
