A new computer and software have been donated to local charity, Safer, from IT support and service provider Logicalis.

Safer was set up to work towards preventing domestic abuse and also to protect those individuals who have experienced domestic violence.

Dr Maggie Costen, Chairman of Safer said: "We are very grateful to Logicalis for their generous donation and continued IT support. As a small charity we don’t always have all the administrative expertise in-house, so to receive such tremendous support from Logicalis is vital to the smooth-running of the services we offer. Domestic abuse can have a profound impact on children and young people. Numerous studies have demonstrated that children exposed to domestic violence and abuse, whether to an adult or to themselves, are more likely to experience a wide range of adverse psychosocial and behavioural issues.

"Last year, we received referrals from 114 high-risk adult victims. Within these families, there were over 150 children and young people who had been exposed to abuse within the supposedly safe environment of their homes. As a charity focused on domestic abuse, it is our role to make those victims feel safer through the various support services we offer."

Rene Brun, General Manager at Logicalis said: "Because of the sensitive nature of the work Safer is involved with, much of it goes unreported, yet they are, sadly, playing an invaluable role in our community and providing new IT equipment for the charity is just a small gesture on our part."
