MORE than 7,000 people went to the Sure Big Screen beating last year’s attendance. The week long outdoor cinema, which is put on by Sure free of charge, saw 22 films shown including The Lego Movie, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Plastic, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Last Vegas, Philomena, and Anchorman 2.

‘Every year, we wonder if it can be as good as the last and every year, it surpasses our expectations. It’s been a fantastic week, and we have seen islanders and visitors of all ages coming down to enjoy the films,’ said Sure’s marketing and PR manager Jess Bisson. ‘Frozen was the highlight of the week with around 2,000 people singing a long and there were lots of children in fancy dress. We had face painters to add to the atmosphere and they couldn’t keep up with demand.’

Miss Bisson said that the feedback had made all the hard work in organising the Sure Big Screen worthwhile. As well as putting on the event, Sure also gave away thousands of gifts including popcorn, sweets, balloons and ice-cream.

‘Lots of people have commented that it’s nice to have something they can come to which doesn’t cost them any money. Sure has thousands of customers in Guernsey and we are proud to have the opportunity to give something back to the community.’

In the weeks leading up to the event, Sure Big Screen was named by MSN Travel as one of the world’s top outdoor cinemas alongside events in Australia, America and South Africa. It has also been shortlisted as one of the best events in the South of England and Channel Islands in the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) PRide Awards, and the only one from the Channel Islands.

‘Sure Big Screen is well and truly established as one of the most popular events in the island and will be back next year to entertain thousands more,’ said Miss Bisson.
