Public relations agency Orchard has promoted Harriet Black to consultant and John McCarthy to senior account executive.

Ms Black is joining the senior consultancy team after three and a half years with the company. In her new role she will be responsible for directing PR and communications campaigns for a number of Orchard’s clients in Guernsey, Jersey, the Isle of Man and the UK.

Having joined Orchard after graduating from university Ms Black has subsequently completed the PR Diploma with the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, and is also recognised as an accredited practitioner by the Institute.

This year Ms Black has been shortlisted for the Outstanding Young Communicator award in the CIPR PRide awards for the South of England and Channel Islands.

Orchard managing director Steve Falla said: “Harriet has been instrumental in winning new business for Orchard, both in terms of her research, creativity and preparation in response to pitch opportunities and in playing an active role “on her feet” as part of the pitch team.

“She punches above her weight on all the accounts on which she works, intuitively thinking ahead and often taking responsibility and decisions at a level that one would normally associate with a more experienced practitioner. Her promotion is richly deserved.”

John McCarthy, also an accredited practitioner of the CIPR, has been promoted to the role of senior account executive. This role involves co-ordinating Orchard’s research and media monitoring functions alongside client-facing work.

“Both Harriet and John have worked immensely hard since they joined us, undertaking professional qualifications along with developing their skills on the job. It is extremely satisfying to reward them for this with their promotions, but it is also great for Orchard to see two individuals moving forward in their careers with us,” said Mr Falla. “Harriet’s promotion in particular is a positive sign as it means we have increased the capacity of our senior team to offer an excellent service to our clients.”
