Peter Neville, former Director General of the GFSC and founder of Guernsey Community Savings, a charity which helps financially excluded Guernsey residents to access basic financial services, has been appointed Chairman of Parkinson’s Guernsey LBG.

Peter said: “I am thrilled to have been appointed Chairman of Parkinson’s Guernsey. The charity provides essential support to those affected by Parkinson’s - the fastest growing neurological condition in the world. I have been very impressed by the dedication and professionalism of all those involved with the charity and I jumped at the chance to join the team.

“My aim is to help raise the profile of the charity and widen the support provided by our experts to those affected by the condition.”

“Guernsey is very fortunate to have charities like Parkinson’s Guernsey. Just as in the UK, care in the community is increasingly being provided by the third sector. A major problem is that demand for funding for third sector organisations which provide that care is increasing at a time when economic conditions make it challenging for the funders to raise the money required.”

“I look forward to working with colleagues and also to joining the discussion with government over the importance of supporting the third sector. In particular, there are a number of exciting clinical and technological developments which we consider worth exploring in cooperation with the authorities because of the potential benefits for people with Parkinson’s in Guernsey.”

On behalf of the Board Jane Tullier, a Director of Parkinson’s Guernsey, said: “The Board of Parkinson’s Guernsey is delighted to welcome Peter as our new Chairman. His experience and understanding of Guernsey’s third sector, combined with a knowledge of governance and regulation, will stand us in very good stead as we develop our services and meet the standards set by the new Charities Ordinance.”
