A life size frog will officially open the Grow charity Christmas Fayre on Sunday 15 December.
Frollo, designed by Crew member Abi Lawlor, has been appointed Grow’s mascot and will be at Grow throughout the Fayre to help Father Christmas and his Elf spread festive cheer to everyone.
Abi shared her inspiration for creating Frollo: ‘I thought of designing a frog because Grow’s fundraising arm is called FrOGs. I’ve loved giving Frollo a personality and have drawn him in lots of different scenarios.’
Abi’s artistic talents are further showcased in a new Frollo colouring book, where children can follow Frollo’s adventures throughout the year. From sowing seeds in the spring to building a snowman after Christmas, the book is a charming celebration of the seasons and Grow’s ethos of nurturing and growth.
This creative initiative has been made possible thanks to funds raised through a raffle organised by the Guernsey International Insurance Association (GIIA) at their annual dinner. These funds sponsored both the Frollo mascot costume and the colouring book.
Adele Gale, Chair of GIIA, expressed her enthusiasm for the project: ‘We absolutely loved the idea of supporting Frollo. Grow’s new facilities have enabled the charity to provide training in many more sectors. Enabling Abi to develop her artistic skills has given her confidence and self-esteem, and she is rightly very proud of Frollo.’
There will be much to explore at Grow’s Christmas Fayre with Christmas trees ranging from 4ft to 7ft for sale in the greenhouse alongside seasonal plants. The Crafty Frog, Grow’s newly opened shop, offers products created by local artisans alongside Christmas decorations, bird boxes and bug hotels made in the workshop. FrOGs volunteers will be welcoming visitors to the canteen with a range of hot drinks and tasty cakes while the training Café will offer delicious festive treats including burgers and sausage rolls. Mini Christmas puddings will also be for sale.
The Fayre takes place on Sunday (15th December) from 10.30am – 2.30pm. Limited parking on site means a park and ride will operate from the Guernsey Institute (College of Further Education).
Come and join Frollo, Father Christmas, and the Grow community for a day of festive fun and support the incredible work of this cherished local charity.
