Year 7 students from across the island visited the Guille-Allès Library last month to find out how the Library can support them in their education and discover the range of services on offer.

Every Year 7 student from the States high schools took part in activities including coding, a shelving challenge, and a treasure hunt. They were also given a demonstration of the huge range of online resources available via the Library, and were introduced to the cutting-edge technology in the Fab Lab.

With 495 students attending over four days, they also visited the ongoing Boundless Curiosity exhibition to learn about the remarkable story behind the Library’s origins and see some of the treasures on display – including The Birds of America, one of the rarest books in the world.

Jodie Hearn, the Library’s Head of Children & Young People’s Services, said: “These annual visits are an important milestone for Year 7’s as they settle into secondary school, giving them the opportunity to explore the Library’s full range of services and find out how we can help them achieve their potential.

They all seem to have had great fun, and we’ve already seen many of them return to the Library in the days since their visits, especially to use the Fab Lab. It’s fantastic to see.”

More information about the Library’s services for children and young people, including school resources, the Fab Lab, and the Boundless Curiosityexhibition, can be found at www.library.gg
