Now in its 9th year, the 30baysin30days event makes a return to islanders’ Summer calendar on 1st July. Over that time there has been a significant increase in people regularly sea swimming so it is hoped that this will be a record year for people taking part to support Les Bourgs Hospice. All participants need to do is swim a minimum of 30 strokes in 30 bays on the event list (extra swims at the same bays can be swapped for bays that are not accessible for an individual). It is a great way to explore the island, set aside time to catch up with family or friends and make the most of Summer!

July can be a busy month for holidays but there is still the chance to get involved by doubling up on swims, catching up on your return to the island or signing up for the smaller version of the event, 9baysin30days. This is tailored for those with young families or with mobility issues as it takes swimmers to the easier to access beaches which also have a kiosk, toilets and parking.

New for this year is the official addition of La Vallette Bathing Pools to the list to replace Petit Port which is closed for the foreseeable future. Liz Stonebridge, founder of the 30baysin30days event says “Despite our obvious disappointment about Petit Port we are very excited to add the bathing pools to the list. The Vive La Vallette team have done an incredible job of upgrading this Community facility so we wanted to help to encourage people to visit and use it during July with a view to them continuing to use it all year-round”.

With the opening group swim fast approaching now is the time to get signed up at www.30bays.org. It is £15 for adults, £5 for children or £35 for a family entry. There is also a team entry which has an unlimited number of people taking part so the list of bays can be shared out. It is hoped that businesses will encourage their staff to take part in this option in support of their employee wellbeing strategies. Registrations can also be made at this first swim which is at Vazon, 6.30pm on Friday 1st July 2022 and any time throughout July.

The continued valued support of key sponsor Rocq Capital has meant swimmers will again receive a map to tick off their bays which has been illustrated by the talented Caroline Cummins of Little Paper Gallery which will be very kindly delivered by Guernsey Post.

The event was inspired by the success of the 30/30 cycle event and personal experience of the excellent care and support that the Hospice provides to patients and their families. It is one of the biggest fundraisers for Les Bourgs Hospice and generates the key part of its income through registration fees so the more people that sign up for the event the more money can be donated to this essential service.
