Max Renouf-Watkins, an Assistant Manager at Deloitte in Jersey, will be walking 48 miles around the island on 20 August 2022 to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).
The Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) charity provides funding for research and care, support and advice for people affected by Motor Neurone Disease and Kennedy's disease. The association in Jersey is an affiliated branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association and provides support to local people living with MND, their families and carers.
Max's father was diagnosed with Kennedy's disease eight years ago. The disease has significantly impacted his physical and mental health and has also cast a shadow across the whole family. The Motor Neurone Disease Association has supported Max's family with advice and education about Kennedy's Disease and provided support from speech and language therapists, nutritionists, sleep specialists, physios and clinical psychologists.
Max said: 'My dad's diagnosis highlighted the need to raise awareness for all Motor Neurone conditions and to help others who find themselves in the same position. So I've set myself this challenge to not only support the charity and the incredible individuals whom are involved with the charity, but also to support my dad, who continues to be an inspiration to me every day. My parents will be joining me for the final stretch of the walk, and I'm looking forward to completing the challenge with them.
'I have been training several times a week for this walk over the past XX months to build up my stamina and ensure I know the coastal paths. Deloitte's agile working policy and flexible Fridays have allowed me to fit my training around my day-to-day work. I am extremely grateful to the firm for supporting this undertaking and my family situation.'
