MEDIA RELEASE: The views expressed in this article are those of the author and not Bailiwick Express, and the text is reproduced exactly as supplied to us

Repairs to the Havelet Slipway near Castle Cornet, which was damaged during a storm in 2018 were commenced on 4th July 2022 by Geomarine Ltd.

The demolition of the existing concrete slabs has been completed. Drilling and installation of dowel bars into the Slipway wall will commence shortly along with fabrication of the steel reinforcement which will be placed within the new concrete capping slabs. The concrete slabs will be constructed in 12 individual bays and these are anticipated to commence mid-August 2022.

The estimated completion date for this project is October 2022, in the meantime there is no public access to the structure. Parking in the area will be suspended for the duration of the site works, to allow for access and a contractor’s compound. We thank everyone for their understanding.

Instances of children and adults climbing the face of Havelet Seawall directly above the Slipway construction site have been reported. Guernsey Ports would like to remind the public of the inherent dangers of this activity, particularly around an active construction site where vertical steel bars may be present just below the waterline.

Mariners are reminded that Local Notices to Mariners 005/2019 is still in force and the structure should not be used until the notice has been rescinded by Guernsey Ports.
