The finest footballers of Guernsey Police and Guernsey Prison will soon be taking to the pitch once again for the annual Gordon Smillie Charity Match.

Following on from the success of previous years, the two organisations are once again hosting a charity football game to raise money for North Field 2 local charities Guernsey Welfare Service and Guernsey Foster Care and Adoption.

With gates opening at 1:00pm, and the match kicking off at 2:30pm, the event – which is taking place on 22 April at Northfield - will be accompanied with a huge raffle, a meat draw, food, and all sorts of family fun events.

The raffle alone will have over 40 excellent prizes which have been donated by generous local businesses, including Catherine Best, Oaty and Joey’s, the Mallard, Sark Shipping, the Captains’ and many, many more.

DC Robbie Dover, organising on behalf of the police, said:

“We have been hosting this event for several years now, and it is always a great time for everyone, with lots of money raised for good causes. Everyone enjoys a bit of friendly competition, and we look forward to giving our colleagues from the prison a good run for their money on the pitch.

“Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the family fun day, there will be plenty of food, a bouncy castle, soft play area, and hopefully many other activities for people to enjoy. We are very proud of the raffle we have put together as well, and I’d like to thank all of the local businesses who have donated their fantastic prizes.”

Senior Officer George Collenette, Guernsey Prison, said:

“The game that took place previously was a huge success for the charities we each decided to support. As with every year, we want to put on an event that people of all ages can come and enjoy, but the match is undoubtedly the centre piece of what is going on. We are very much looking forward to getting out on the pitch again and hope we can break previous records when it comes to people’s generosity when donating to charity. On behalf of all Guernsey Prison I’d like to thank the businesses that are supporting us for the event the support has been amazing, And all the Guernsey Prison staff and their families that have put a tremendous amount of work in behind the scenes.”
