Only last week, the GSPCA were near Fort Grey releasing Pork Pie and Titan, both well over 60kgs in weight and over a year old.

Today a report came in of a beached grey seal pup in the same area.

Head of Marine Mammals Geoff George, after feeding the four seal pups at the GSPCA this morning, got the call and headed down to check out if the pup was okay or needed help.

“When I got to Fort Grey we were faced with a grey seal pup of around 5 weeks of age," said Mr George.

“He is very long and very thin at just 23kgs which is half the weight he should be.

“He also some other health concerns such and we have called the vet to come and have a look as he is now at the GSPCA.

“He is extremely feisty which is a good sign and he joins the four others we have at the GSPCA in our intensive care area.

“We have named him Blueberry and we will be caring for him around the clock.

“The other four seal pups - Luna C, Jagho Herman, the two newest Guernsey seal pups, and Aurora and Eliza, the Jersey pups - are doing well and three are now out on the rehab pools.”

Steve Byrne, GSPCA Manager, said: “Last week we released two seal pups and today we rescue another, taking the numbers in our care back up to five.

“Blueberry will need around the clock care.

“Luna C, Aurora and Eliza are all able to use the pools now, although Jagho Herman is needing additional care and is improving daily.

“This time of year we see seal pups being born around the Channel Islands but it is extremely important to leave them alone and not approach as you can scare their mother away.

“If you see a seal pup please do give us a call on 257261 or send a few pictures via our facebook or admin@gspca.org.gg so we can monitor them.

“For advice on what to do and how to identify a sick seal pup check out our advice page HERE.

"Here is a table of the seals we have helped back to the wild and Porkpie and Titan are hopefully ready soon."
