Charity may close without support

The pedestrian safety group Living Streets will be holding its AGM on Wednesday 11th January in the Emma Ferbrache Room at the PEH at 6.30 pm.

Founder and Secretary of STEPS/Living Streets, Pat Wisher says:

“Our charity celebrated its 20th year in May and had hoped to continue campaigning for the rights of pedestrians. However, at our AGM three key members of the committee (all of us in our 80’s!) will be retiring. Myself (the founder, Secretary and fund raiser), Tom Le Pelley (who has been our Chairman for the past 10 years) and Judith Le Tissier (who has been a committee member throughout the 20 years).

Living Streets believes there is still a need for a group to stand up for pedestrians. However, there is a danger that the charity will have to close down unless we can fill these key posts and also find a way of raising funds to pay for the annual rental and upkeep of the Baubigny Schools pathway.

“Currently the total cost for the pathway is £5,395 (annual rent and cost for a litter/dog bin). This is covered by our fund raising events and through the sale of our “Guernsey Country Walks” cards and calendars (which we sell at the Manor Farmer‘s Market and other events and retail outlets throughout the year).”

It would be a tragedy if we had to close the Baubigny Schools pathway.
