Alderney Airport prepares itself for a busy weekend on 6-8 September, when the Annual Alderney Fly-In will take place.
Over 50 small private aircraft are expected to land and over 100 keen aviators and their passengers will be spending the weekend enjoying Alderney’s renowned hospitality and discovering Alderney’s wild side.
And, to make this year’s Fly-In another one to remember, the organising team of the Alderney Flying Club has produced a versatile programme to entertain all participants which inevitably includes some of the old favourites, as well as some new events.
This year, in addition to the usual Friday night BBQ at the Moorings, and Saturday night’s Gala Dinner and Prize-Giving at the Island Hall, there will be Round the Island minibus tours and boat trips, plus guided tours of historic places of interest. The organisers have also arranged for the Island’s Padel tennis professional to hold special introductory and intermediate clinics on the new Padel court.
Private aviation is very important contributor to the island’s visitor economy and the hospitality and retail sectors and the organisers are hoping for good weather and an excellent turnout.

However, this special annual event has been overshadowed by the sad news of the sudden death of David Chiswell, the Chairman of the Alderney Flying Club, who passed away on Sunday 11 August.
In many ways, David was the driving force behind the Alderney Flying Club.
He was also personally involved in organising the annual Fly-In.
David Earl, Acting Chairman, will now be coordinating this year’s Fly-In.
