Utmost International Guernsey spends year fundraising for Wigwam

Friday 08 April 2022

Wigwam Support Group received close to £8,000 thanks to the fundraising efforts of Utmost International Guernsey.

Utmost staff held monthly meat draws, raffles and a staff quiz evening to raise funds, and the company then matched the amount raised for the final donation.

The funds will be used to support children with additional needs to pursue their hobbies and interests as much as possible alongside their peers.

A portion of the donation will also fund two sponsored workers to allow disabled children to attend the Youth Commission’s summer playscheme.

The work undertaken by the organisation includes family support and helping children transition from school and children’s services to adult services. It also acts as a spokesperson for issues faced by children and young people with additional needs and their families.

Wigwam Family Support Coordinator, Susie Gallienne said she was “delighted” with the donation.

“We are very grateful for the number of fundraising initiatives Utmost put on throughout 2021 and the incredible amount of money they raised during what was a very trying year for everyone,” she said.

“We hope to be able to extend the donation to create some individual activities for our more severely disabled children and some toys and equipment for a protected play space we are hoping to develop later this year in partnership with Edible Guernsey.”

Utmost International Guernsey Chief Executive Officer, Leon Steyn, added: “We are so pleased to have raised a substantial amount of funds to support not one, but three different initiatives for Wigwam. It’s incredibly important to us that we are able to make a difference in people’s lives.

“Each year, our fundraising efforts are a huge success and I’m grateful to our staff members for getting involved.”
