Trust Corporation heads back to New York for major conference

Tuesday 20 March 2018

Trust Corporation International is continuing to promote Guernsey to the United States’ private client community through its high level support of a major annual conference next week.

The Guernsey company is again gold sponsor of the New York State Bar Association’s 14th Annual Estate Planning Institute in Times Square, New York.

Jointly hosted with STEP USA, the event is expected to attract trust and estate practitioners, bankers and accountants from around the world. Industry leaders will exchange ideas and discuss developments regarding cross-border planning with a US component.

In particular the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act signed in December 2017 contains significant provisions that have a direct impact on planning for international private clients, including non-US individual taxpayers with US assets, US individuals and trusts with offshore assets and offshore structures for the benefit of US beneficiaries. Some of these changes may require the reorganisation of existing structures.

Trust Corporation Chairman Michael Betley and Director Andrea Daley-Taylor will be representing Trust Corporation at the conference.

Ms Daley-Taylor said: “We have been supporting this initiative for six years now and we’re becoming increasingly recognised for our specialism in dealing with private clients with some kind of US touch point. We have a high profile at the event by being gold sponsor.”

Kate Clouston, Deputy Chief Executive from Guernsey Finance, will also be part of the delegation on what, for her, will be the first of three trips to the US this year.

Miss Clouston said: “We are definitely seeing increased interest in Guernsey from the US in a number of sectors over the past couple of years, and we will continue to promote ourselves in this market during 2018.”
