Friday 18 March 2022

Data Driven Guernsey Week returns from Monday 21 March.

The Digital Greenhouse will host a series of events sponsored by Blenheim Chalcot which aim to inspire islanders to develop their skills and understanding of data.

The week will see sessions that could be the first steps in a new career in the growing field of data science.

Events will start with an interactive session highlighting the power of OKRs titled 'Measuring what matters: using metrics to supercharge your business'.

Tuesday morning will be focused on innovation in financial services with a virtual talk sharing perspectives on what innovation in financial services means for Guernsey. In the afternoon, there will be a crypto currency session for those looking to explore a safe and sustainable crypto journey.

Wednesday will feature a double session with Association for Project Management that will explore project management upskilling opportunities for professionals with any level of experience. It will feature a panel of experts. On Wednesday afternoon, Cortex will host 'Data Warehousing 101: How do you get started?', which will review the core principles of data warehousing, including a live demonstration of Bragi, Cortex’s bespoke warehouse automation tool.

Thursday will begin with a virtual event with Avado Learning to discuss why data skills are in demand and how the need for them will continue to rise in the future. Avado LDC Lianne Hartley will share her story of completing her data analyst apprenticeship. Thursday will finish with individuals from across the technology and digital sectors coming together for an evening 'Tech-Mex' networking event at the Lion’s Den above the Golden Lion, sponsored by Prosperity 24/7.

The week will conclude with a virtual session from Renew Guernsey about how zero energy buildings can reverse biodiversity loss, provide abundant energy sources and data that can help reverse climate change and provide energy security.

Digital Greenhouse Director Lucy Kirby said: “This is an exciting opportunity to bring together a range of local and international thought leaders, sharing innovation in the creation and use of data.

"This year the events will be held in blended formats, with options to attend in person or virtually, making the best use of tech to keep our community connected.”

Events will be co-constructed by a range of industry experts, government and support agencies, including Blenheim Chalcot, Prosperity 24/7, Avado Learning, KPMG, ID Register, We Are Guernsey, EY and Association for Project Management.
