Orkla Health purchases Healthspan for £65m

Friday 25 February 2022

The Nordic diet supplement company Orkla Health has purchased 100% of Healthspan Group Limited's shares for £65m.

Healthspan will continue to operate as a stand-alone company in Guernsey with the same staff.

Healthspan is one of the leading suppliers of dietary supplements in the British market with a portfolio of over 400 products.

Healthspan CEO Martin Talbot welcomed the acquisition by Orkla Health.

"This is an exciting opportunity for Healthspan. We will continue to operate as a stand-alone business but with the opportunity to tap into Orkla's expertise and strength to drive further growth and expansion," he said.

"Healthspan will continue to operate the business with the same management team and employees in place following the acquisition."

The Guernsey-based business was established in 1996 and has 170 employees.

Orkla President and CEO Jaan Ivar Semlitsch said the purchase was in line with the company's strategic plans.

"This acquisition is strategically important for us along several dimensions. It supports our ambitions of establishing a strong position in consumer health and it strengthens our position online," he said.

"Healthspan has a broad portfolio of dietary supplements and has established a strong business model with direct sales to consumers in the British market. Both the health category and direct-to-consumer sales channels are growing."

Healthspan was purchased from the estate of founder Derek Coates, who passed away in 2020.
