Bryan Guilbert, PostWatch Guernsey Chairman, said: “It is with regret that we have taken this step, but we have been unsuccessful in attracting someone to take up the reins at the helm and without a volunteer willing to do so, PostWatch is unable to continue. Anecdotal information indicates that problems in finding volunteers is not confined to PostWatch and that it is becoming ever more difficult to attract people willing to take on key positions in some of the local voluntary and sporting organisations.

"I have served on PostWatch for a total of nearly 16 years and under the PostWatch constitution my six year term of office as Chairman was due to expire in April this year. It was therefore necessary for me to stand down and I was hoping to give fresh blood a chance. Unfortunately none of the other existing members, for various personal reasons, wished to take on the role and with no one coming forward in response to our advertisements the decision to disband at the end of 2019 was taken.”

Boley Smillie, Chief Executive of Guernsey Post said: “We are very grateful to PostWatch for the contribution they have made over the last 20 years and we are sad to see the committee disband. Over the years the feedback from PostWatch has helped shape some of our decisions and the Committee have made valuable contributions on behalf of the consumer."

Bryan Guilbert added: “PostWatch was always treated with trust and respect by the company, for which we’d like to express our thanks to the team at Guernsey Post and we wish this important institution well in the years ahead. While we are all naturally disappointed that this is the end for PostWatch Guernsey, our Committee is unanimous in the view that Guernsey Post is serving the community well.”
