Julius Baer has appointed Karen Martin as its new Head of Human Resources in Guernsey as the local bank continues to grow.

Mrs Martin is a former Chairman of the Guernsey branch of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and joins Julius Baer with 30 years’ experience as an HR specialist.

In her new role Mrs Martin will be part of the senior leadership team with responsibility for all HR functions within the firm.

Stephen Burt, Branch Manager of Julius Baer’s Guernsey office, said: “We welcome Karen to our senior leadership team. Having someone with such expertise in this important role will add a great deal of value to the bank’s recruitment and employee welfare. Karen joins us with a wealth of experience at a senior executive level and will be especially important throughout our planned period of growth.

“We have more than 100 employees in Guernsey and their development and wellbeing is of huge importance to us. Karen will work to ensure that Julius Baer remains an employer that values its staff, invests in their development and provides an enjoyable and high-quality professional environment.”

A former chair of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development, Mrs Martin is also a former committee member of Women in Professions, the Women’s Development Forum and a current fellow of the CIPD.

“I’m really looking forward to working with the Julius Baer team - it’s a great opportunity for me to use the skills and knowledge I have gained over the course of my career.  Julius Baer already has an enviable employee retention record which I only want to improve upon during my time here,” Mrs Martin added.
