New dark dance class launches

Tuesday 18 October 2022

A new fitness class has launched in Guernsey, taught by Louise Moyse (pictured), who wants everyone to "dance like no one is watching".

Every Tuesday evening at St Stephen's Community Centre, Ms Moyse teaches her Dancing in the Dark class between 18:00 and 19:00.

She says it is "an inclusive and fun exercise class for all abilities, where all the proceeds go to local charities".

With a high-octane nightclub-style playlist and a near pitch-black environment, she says you are free to dance however you like and work up a sweat at your own pace.

Ms Moyse said she has attended similar classes in Australia and London and thought it would be something popular to bring to Guernsey.

"I instantly fell in love with the concept - it was so freeing to be able to dance however you like, and I was exhausted by the end so it's definitely a major workout too. I have been dancing my whole life but this is so different from an instructed dance class - it's much more like dancing in your bedroom where you can go wild!

"I really think everyone would enjoy it whether they've danced for years or only ever pluck up the courage on a late-night wedding dance floor. It’s a really welcoming environment and everyone is welcome."
