MSG welcomes oncologist

Friday 21 October 2022

The Medical Specialist Group has recruited a consultant oncologist with experience across the world.

Dr Matthew Clark, pictured (top), was most recently a consultant in medical oncology at Christchurch Hospital in New Zealand.

Dr Clark trained at Imperial College London, completing his specialist oncology training in 2014.

His career has taken him to the John Hopkins International Medical Centre in Singapore, Shanghai, Bermuda and New Zealand as well as some of London’s leading teaching hospitals.

"I chose to specialise in oncology because of the opportunity to help people overcome cancer," said Dr Clark.

"I was also attracted by the constant learning required to keep up with innovations and developments in cancer treatment. And I was inspired by a distinguished mentor, Professor David Cunningham."

Dr Clark specialises in breast cancer, lung cancer and predisposition genetics - the hereditary risk of getting cancer.

In Singapore, he set up a cancer predisposition genetics service, allowing screening and preventative action for high-risk patients and their affected family members.

Dr Steve Evans, Chair of the Medical Directorate at the MSG, welcomed Dr Clark.

"He brings a wealth and depth of experience that will complement the expertise of Dr Peter Gomes and Dr Yokesh Manikyam in our oncology department," said Dr Evans.

Outside work, Dr Clark said that he enjoys watching and playing football and tennis, reading and "a good cup of coffee".
